Fifteen random facts about me and some of my favourite things:

1. Travelling. Especially the middle east and Africa. I love going to places where the way people live their lives is so completely different from the way we operate in the UK.

2. Liverpool. I just cannot really imagine living anywhere else. And that doesn't contradict 1. above.

3. White Man in Hammersmith Palais by The Clash. Ever since I first heard it, its always been special. It has a subtle power that keeps calling me back to it.

4. Whilst we're on the subject of music, its only right to mention John Peel. He had no peers.

5. Restaurants that use good quality raw ingredients and then cook them properly. Good ribeye steak doesn't need sauce; it just needs love. And chips. The best meal I have ever eaten was moules frites at a place near Marseille. That was the only thing on the menu. For a good reason. It was the perfect meal and the €15 it cost included 1/2 caraffe of wine.

6. Flickr. It never ceases to amaze me how much talent there is out there. An ever increasing and expanding source of inspiration.

7. The Mersey. I suppose this is an extension of 2. in a way. I go down to the river nearly every day with the dog. I love how its always a different experience - weather, light, tide, whatever.

8. Le Mans 24hr race. Its the perfect boys weekend away. BBQs, beer and proper racing cars. If you could bottle a sound and sell it, it would the noise made by 48 GT cars doing a flying start at 4pm on race day. Awesome.

9. I'm not very good at beaches. But give me a cafe and an espresso in a town square and I could sit and watch people walking past for hours. I love making up stories as to who they are, what they're doing, where they're going.

10. A while ago I decided it was legitimate to call myself A Photographer. I can't remember precisely when this was, but I know why. Its because I look at the world differently from other people. In a round about way, Ray Mears is partly responsible for this view of the world.

11. Mixtapes. I used to do this a lot as a kid - Vinyl to C90. Its not the same anymore - dragging and dropping doesn't give you the same buzz. Doing it digitally means you don't have to listen to the music to create your mix. And that's no good. Plus, I like the fact that the French for a casette is K7 - very cool.

12. Honda Prelude 2.2 VTEC. The most fun car I've owned. Sadly, it was also the car I owned for the shortest period of time. Stolen to order by some scumbags in the southeast and turned up at the docks waiting to go to Dubai or somesuch. I used the insurance money to buy an Alfa Romeo GTV 2.0 Twinspark. And whilst I will maintain that everyone should own an Alfa at least once in their life, I will concede the point that a great car is not the one that decides lane 3 on the M57 at 80mph is the place to dump its engine all over the floor.

13. A world without Robert Mugabe. I cannot begin to think how he could even start to justify, in any sensible, rational, fashion what he has done to Zimbabwe.

14. Anna. You're just fab and I love you.

15. I once lost £40 to Phillip Schofield (yes, that Phillip Schofield) playing poker. Not a massive amount of money, but not so fab.
