1. I'm blind in one eye due to a childhood accident involving a pencil.

2. I love driving on the motorway. It reminds me how much I rely on the competency and capabilities of other people.

3. A popular science program changed my life.

4. I enjoy following recipes, patterns and programs but otherwise never read instructions.

5. I had an EEG scan when I was five and seeing my brain working had a profound effect on me.

6. My first job was as a cloakroom attendant in a gay club.

7. An elderly professor once told me there would be a female lecturer in his department over his dead body. He was still warm when I became the first.

8. I can mirror-write in both directions. The utility of this ability has only recently become apparent.

9. I'm not afraid of dying.

10. I have a terrible memory for facts but can think abstractly with ease.

11. I was a 'tarty blonde' in Alan Bleasedale's GBH.

13. I have a scar from an operation that no doctor has ever correctly identified.
